Cuppycake

Hey

I love cupcakes and making them, however I haven't really got what I need to bake them while at Uni so whenever I go into London I always make a point of buying a cupcake whether it a Lola's, Hummingbird Bakery or like this time one from Selfridges. This was the first time I had got one from Selfridges and I wasn't disappointed. I did have to eat the frosting first as it was too big for my to eat the cupcake and the frosting together.

While in the food hall, as there is a Lola's Cupcakes stall I noticed that they have a competition on at the moment for creating their new flavour. I'm very tempted to enter :)

Remember the Magic

Hey

When my sister was down at the weekend, we didn't just go and see Shrek, we had to go to Harrods and get lots of delicious food.

When we went to Harrods before Christmas to go to the Disney shop, we didn't realise that they also had a Disney Cafe. Therefore we had to return to go and have lunch there. There is Big Ben in the centre with Tinkerbell flying around it, and various screens around the cafe showing clips of various Disney films.

Some of the food is Disney inspired like the Mickey ravioli that I had, although the mini burgers my sister had looked amazing too (I might have to go back to try them). The food is also served on Mickey plates, which I wish you could purchase although they wouldn't really go with my kitchen as I plan to have a blue kitchen eventually. Also as you arrive at the cafe you are welcomed by Mickey and Goofy. So wish I had been smaller, the children get complementary Minnie or Mickey ears.

Big Bright Beautiful World

Hey

My sister descended on London this weekend and we went off to go see Shrek the Musical as it is closing at Drury Lane at the end of February. We were both surprised at how much we had forgotten to the story of Shrek. Perhaps we should have watched it before we popped down to watch it. It is definitely worth skipping down to see it before it closes or catch it when it goes touring. I has got cracking songs and amazing animation with regards to the dragon (I don't want to give too much away). The theatre itself is also beautiful.

Bring em' Out

Hey

So like last year, I went to go see the auditions for Britain's Got Talent with my uni mates yesterday. For some reason it always seems to fall around the time we have placement but so that we can still make it. This year the auditions were at the London Palladium, and it was definitely organised a hell of a lot better than last year. It did start late again but you kind of expect that when you go to these things (of all the ones I've been to, they have been running late). At least it wasn't snowing yesterday like it was the year before when we went.

I thought the seats we got last year were good but this year they were even better this year. We got tickets right on the aisle about two rows back from the judges table. The pictures of their entrance are a bit blurry because everything happens quickly and because you are also dodging other people taking photos.

It seems Simon uses a cushion to look taller when sitting
down

This year there was some amazing acts that we saw, which some should definitely make it to the live semi-finals at least and the others warrant being shown on the audition episodes. We have to wait to April to see how many acts I saw get air time and if I was in any shots as I was behind Simon depending on the angel.

Snowbound

Hey

So this weekend and probably for the rest of the week, there has been a blanket of snow covering majority of the country and it definitely made coming back from Bristol a bit of a mission. I ended up having to stay another day and coming back on Sunday as a result. Coming back on the motorway wasn't too bad and I got to see some beautiful snow covered scenery.

View from the M4

The snow also seems to be causing some interesting statues to pop up around campus. I would assume it is university students' way of procrastinating, as we don't get snow days like we use to at school.

Cold Part Of Town

Hey

It seems that my calendar may be right about what this month could be like.

It started to snow today, but only time will tell if it will get this bad. It didn't seem like it would settle today though, as it was wet on the paths.

Beating Mesothelioma With My Courage Intact

Hey

I got a comment from a lovely lady could Heather before Christmas, asking whether I would mind if she did a guest post on my blog to try and share her story more. I like to try raise awareness about health issues probably more so now due to my university course and chosen career route. So here is Heather's story and if you want to hear more pop over to her blog.

I was only 36 when I had my first and only child, and I was only 36 when I realized that I had cancer. Both revelations changed my world, and they both continue to teach me things every day. When I had my daughter, I was thrown into a whirlwind of joy and good wishes. Everything was wonderful, and I had no idea what would happen next.

When Lily was less than four months old, I got the news. On November 21, 2005 I was told that I had malignant pleural mesothelioma, a type of cancer that was caused by asbestos exposure and which was attacking my lungs. I had been accidentally exposed as a child, and now, three decades later and only 3 ½ months into being a mom, it had decided to attack me.

All I could think about was my baby and my husband. As the doctor talked, I realized that if I did nothing, I would only have 15 months left to spend with the two most important people in my life. I couldn’t take the idea of leaving them alone, and both my husband and I decided to do whatever it took to help me live.

With such a dire prognosis, we decided to go after the most drastic treatment plan possible. We ended up flying out to Boston to speak with one of the best doctors in the world for this particular cancer, and on February 2, 2006, I underwent an extrapleural pneumonectomy, where my left lung was removed. After spending an impatient 18 days of rest in the hospital and another 2 full months of recovery, I was ready for chemotherapy and radiation.

This wasn’t easy on me at all. My parents stepped right up to take care of Lily, and they made the transition from being doting grandparents, to her fulltime caretakers. Fortunately, it seemed that everyone in their town helped them out at one point or another.

While I was not watching my baby girl learn to eat food and move around in person, that doesn’t mean I was entirely out of the loop. My mom took pictures and emailed them to us, and my husband printed them off for me. These pictures are truly what kept me fighting.

Whether you are healthy or coming to a show-stopping realization of your own, I suggest that you run towards life, not away. Even with the bad things that happened, I have been exposed to a great deal of good along the way.

Blue Monday

Hey

Well I'm back at university for the last long push before graduation. I've got four weeks on campus finishing off lots of assignments to finish off, prep reading for placements and starting my research proposal.

So to try and cheer myself up I thought I would share some of my sale shopping from Christmas. I spent lots in Fat Face but I did have vouchers and I had be scouting the shop before hand for what I wanted to purchase when it was January sales time. I found everything I wanted to get :)

Fat Face Dresses, Fat Face PJ's shorts and Primark Cardigan

I also picked up a dress in the sale at New Look which I thought would come in very use when I start interviewing for jobs once I've graduated.

NewLook Dress

I also got a bargain book from WHSmith's for under £4, when in another WHSmith's it was still £8 in the sales. I can't wait to try the amaretto cupcakes in it.

A Holly Jolly Christmas

Hey

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. I was very lucky this year and got lots of lovely presents. For the first time, the presents under our tree reach from one side to another - I think it was just because we had lots of gift bags and boxes with items inside.

I received lots of items that will eventually go in my kitchen once I have a house. But one of my favourite presents were my Cinderella slippers that I had to wait ages for as they were bought in November when the Disney section in Harrods first opened.

Now me and my sister both have a pair
